Mastering Number Reception and KS1 Interest
This national programme - now in its sixth year - aims to secure firm foundations in the development of good number sense for all children from Reception through to Year 1 and Year 2. The aim over time is that children will leave KS1 with fluency in calculation and a confidence and flexibility with number. Attention will be given to key knowledge and understanding needed in Reception classes, and progression through KS1 to support success in the future.

Please note:
- Applications are open to schools who have completed the programme previously
- Desirable criteria - Schools should be already engaged with the Primary Teaching for Mastery Work Groups (Continuing into 2026/27) or have applied for the 2026/27 Introductory Work Group
- Desirable criteria - Previous engagement with our Hub will be taken into account
- Spaces are limited for the 2026/27 cohort
- Completion of the application form does not guarantee you a place on the programme as we are still awaiting our final quota of schools from the DfE so we will use the information on your application form to help us select schools for the programme.

Who can take part?
This programme is for Reception teachers who would like to develop their specialist knowledge for teaching maths. It would be particularly valuable for a Reception teacher and their teaching assistant colleague to attend the programme together.
